Black screen being output on stream/record,despite live screen showing content

Hi there,

I posted this in reply to someone else who had this problem on here, but realised their original post was from 9 months ago so probably wan't the same issue causing their problem given how many updates there have been since then!

So, last night I was streaming Wolfenstein New Order without any probs (apart from some v-sync issues that randomly started happening after updating to latest nvidea drivers, did not affect streaming though!). Booted up this morning and started streaming again only to be greeted by a black screen on the browser end of my stream. The audio is still captured correctly but the video layers are just replaced with an all-black screen. (see attached picture!) I have checked and this issue is happening with the recording function also. I uninstalled/reinstalled GameShow and the problem is still there.

I posted more on this in the old thread I commented on so will add these as separate posts below.

  • Deven Patterson Open your Gameshow scene, at the top, the 5th from the left says Output. Click it. That's it, brother

  • Chase The beta release is hopeful, though what made that work was restoring my project from a backup file. Consider setting up a brand new blank project as a test and record to video file. If still black, wait for the release. If not black, consider restoring from a backup file.

  • Deven Patterson I’m not sure if it’s a Windows distribution version issue, but here’s what I found on a Windows wiki: “If you can't see the menu bar, press the Alt key. Select ‘Toolbars’ and then click the toolbar you want to enable. If you are missing your File, Edit, View, and Tools menu options, select ‘Menu bar’ from the list.”

  • Well I can confirm that 4.2 OSX builds do have this issue on x264 Apple H264 hardware encoder, and  Nvidia H264 Hardware encoder on osx.  I even created a blank Document, and tried from that still actually tried 6 different ones ..  Guess time to go back and grab  an older build of gameshow.... Sadly I actually liked the new updates.

  • Ok -- if you make a new Document you can make it work here is the kicker,  it seems  that if you put anything on master layer 1 and 3 it seems to revert  everything to black output..

So Master layer 2 with everything on it seems to be 60 percent ok .....

    Master layer 1 3  = black screen....

  • Jamie Freeman I did that and nothing. I deleted all scenes, uninstalled, reinstall, and rebuild everything from the ground up. They have admitted that it is an issue with their software but aren't going to fix it any time soon.

  • Jamie Freeman Just use OBS. It's free and once you play with it and understand how it works, it's better. No bugs and they don't just let you sit and ruin your stream "until next patch" or whatever bullshit. Gameshow is THE WORST software to use to stream.

  • Chase You are in a help forum, not a review page. We are looking for a solution to the problem and hope to improve on a product that served us well. Everyone has a chance to evaluate the program at no cost.

If you want a refund, I’ve done the work to find a link for you. http://www.telestream.net/telestream-support/refund-request.htm

  • Jamie Freeman This is why we make backups before updating! LOL. I’ll do the same. My last test with the 4.2 beta worked only after restoring from an older project file.
